Barrell Gold Label Seagrass is a rye whiskey sourced from Canada and matured for 20 years before being finished in a combination of casks that previously held Martinique rum, Malmsey Madeira and apricot brandy. Barrell Craft Spirits built this release to layer tropical, wine and fruit-brandy influences over a long-aged Canadian rye base, resulting in one of the more complex expressions in the Barrell portfolio.
Expect a nose of dried apricot, brown sugar and rum-soaked fruit, with a palate that brings together rye spice, tropical rum sweetness and nutty Madeira notes, finishing long with lingering fruit and oak. Twenty years of age gives this whiskey a rounded, mellow character despite all the finishing complexity layered on top.
